Standing on the Shoulders of the Giants

We, Sri Lankans love festivals, we have multiple festivals lined up throughout the year and we enjoy a lot, can you think of a day, you went to a festival and all that you saw was only human walls, the next most possible occurrence would have been your father or brother lifting you up and asks you to stand on their shoulders to enjoy the festival. Everyone would have gone through such situation, what have we learned from this?

“If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of Giants.” – Sir Isaac Newton

Robert Kiyosaki, author of bestseller Rich Dad & Poor Dad, once he shared a life story of his success, how a giant helped and carried him on her shoulders and he made profits of $5 million, in early 2000, Robert is rich but not so famous as he is now, one day when he was on a tour to Australian remote campsite with friends, he got a call from his wife kim, saying that “Oprah wants you in her program”, Robert decided to go back immediately to USA  in order to participate and after four days of driving and a day of flying he reached the studio in USA. Oprah Winfrey, the queen of television talk show with over 20 Mn viewers in US alone and with syndication with over 150 Countries.

Robert arrived in Chicago after the tiresome travel and he was about to meet Oprah, he was about to be on TV with the most powerful women in mass media, he stated, “It was then that I saw 2 chairs in the middle of the stage. My heart froze as I realized it was all happening… that second chair was for me! The room applauded wildly as Oprah took the stage. An hour later (it felt like a minute) the program was over. Off-camera, she turned to me, pointed, smiled, and said… “Rich Dad, I just sold a million copies of your book.”

“The dwarf sees farther than the giant when he has the giant’s shoulder to mount on”. – Samuel Taylor Coleridge

You don’t have to be a math professor to calculate the profit Robert made, just 5$ profit per book, yes, Oprah, the giant made that sale and profits, Robert just travelled on the shoulders of Oprah, Oprah and the talk show catapulted Robert Kiyosaki’s’ career and his wealth.

It’s just one example of the success stories, every one of us has a story, we have travelled and stood on the shoulders of giants multiple times, but we never realize the opportunity relies on the shoulders we stand. networking with correct people and asking help from correct people might lift you up to the heights you never thought of.
